Matchmaking, challenges & rematches
Find an opponent or invite the rival you already know.
Find an opponent#
Select Classic or Chaos and press Play now. Ranked matchmaking uses separate queues for the two modes. While searching, the waiting screen shows the mode, elapsed time and cancellation state.
Cancel search cancels an unsubmitted search with signed authorization. Once a match creation transaction is submitted, the interface shows the real transaction state; it cannot pretend to undo that transaction.
Challenge someone directly#
- Open Rivals, or use Challenge a friend from home.
- Search for a public username or a full wallet address, and select the profile. You can also paste an address into Opponent address.
- Expand Match options to choose Classic/Chaos and friendly/ranked. Friendly is the initial choice outside rematches.
- Select Send challenge.
The recipient receives an Accept / Decline notification, including when they are on another screen. Accepting continues through consent and match creation automatically. Challenge is also available beside leaderboard entries.
Rematch and links#
Rematch sends a 60-second invitation to the previous opponent with the same mode and friendly/ranked choice. After a tournament, the rematch is independent of the bracket and charges no tournament entry fee.
Other challenges last ten minutes. Shareable links is a secondary option: an addressed link stays reserved for its recipient; an open link reserves the first accepted opponent atomically. Share the generated URL, not a screenshot of your passkey.
Pending, busy or unavailable#
Only one match creation can be active per player. Crossed rematch requests and repeated clicks are deduplicated. A busy opponent must finish their current activity before another game can start.
You can decline, cancel an unsubmitted invitation, or block unwanted invitations. Blocked players can be unblocked in Rivals. Rate limits prevent invitation spam. After a network interruption, the inbox refreshes; consult its actual status before sending another invitation.
